Whether you love to ride your boat or take your motorcycle out for some real fun, you always need something to keep your vehicle in the right working condition. What’s that? A battery, that is.

Buying a battery for your motorcycle seems to be an easy task, but it is not. With so many types of motorcycle batteries available today, it’s always quite tricky to make a right choice. Moreover, you need to know the model of your vehicle to select a right battery, just as you need to know the model of your boat to be able to select the best marine battery charger.

Types of Batteries:

If you want to select a right battery for your bike, you need to learn a bit about different types of batteries. Some may be wet battery type, while others may be dry battery type. However, it is quite important to point out that batteries are usually divided into different categories depending upon their use and construction. In terms of applications, there are three basic types – marine, automotive, and deep-cycle.

• Automotive batteries are available in two types – conventional ones and maintenance free. In a conventional battery, you find a flooded electrolyte. The problem with these batteries is that they have to be maintained in a careful way. It requires water for proper functioning. The water loss is quite common here because the temperature continues to go up due to the process of electrolysis and evaporation. Therefore, you need to add more water to keep it from burning out.

Though they want more attention, they are available at relatively lower rates. On the contrary, maintenance free batteries are quite expensive, but they give you the peace of mind. They don’t use water for proper functioning. They are sealed in a perfect way so the acid remains trapped in them. It also means you don’t have to worry about the level of acid dropping after some time.

• When you talk about batteries used in motorized wheelchairs, traffic signals, recreational vehicles, and trolling motors, you need to go for deep-cycle lead-acid batteries. It means that deep-cycle includes backup power, solar electric, RV and boat house batteries. The major construction types are gelled, flooded, and Absorbed Glass Mat. The lifespan of these batteries varies a lot depending upon how they are used, charged, and maintained.

• Marine batteries fall between the starting and deep cycle batteries. In the hybrid, you may find plates composed of lead sponge, but it will be much heavier than the one used in starting batteries.

More About Battery Chargers:

If you have a vehicle that uses any of the abovementioned types of batteries, you also need a battery charger. Luckily, you can find several sites to find a right type of motorcycle, deep cycle, or marine battery chargers.

For those interested in motorcycle battery chargers can opt for basic chargers, timer-based chargers, and intelligent chargers where the output current is directly related with the state of the battery. For those interested in finding a marine charger, it is important to have some info about the maximum current they want their chargers to produce. The current can be anywhere between 0.8Amps and 7Amps, and higher (sometimes up to 80Amps).

The fact of the matter is that if you have any battery-powered vehicle, you need to spend some time in educating yourself about what should be considered when buying a new battery. It may take some time to learn more about batteries and chargers, but your knowledge will put you in a better position to buy a battery that offers the best value for your hard-earned money.
